Buddy & Me - $100
18 months to 3 years - Adult Participation Required
Welcome to a FUN experience with your 2 - 3 yr old. This letter is to acquaint you with the Buddy & Me class procedures. In this class, the emphasis is on socialization skills, gross motor development and group participation.
Each class will meet in the waiting area. We will take roll and bring you into the gym. Bring your child directly to the warm up area which is usually identified by carpet squares or colored shapes to sit on. Class will have a warm up time where we will do partner stretches, and try to learn basic body positions and terminology. We realize that toddlers "have a mind of their own", and the best way to keep them involved in our activities is to keep a hold of their hand and keep them close. We expect that they will want to wander some at first. Please immediately follow and retrieve them.
Children attending class for the first time may become over stimulated or overwhelmed. If your child becomes upset and you are unable to calm them (which will happen), please take a short break. Remove them from the gym area so that they are not a distraction to others and return when the child has calmed down. This is a common occurrence and parents should not feel embarrassed or discouraged.
We will introduce stations for you to accompany your child. The teacher will show you the objectives of each task, and how to help you assist your child. Remember, any attempt at a station is a success. Feel free to clap and cheer for your child as well as others in the class. These stations can be repeated as many times as your child wishes and they do not have to perform the stations in order. Three attempts is great reinforcement of the lesson concept.
Activities will include stations to develop large muscle groups used for rolling, jumping, running, swinging, as well as fine motor skills. There will also be some free exploration time for them. For safety reasons, it is important that you always stay within arm's reach of your toddler. Older siblings should not accompany you to class.
If a different person is going to attend class with your child, please have them stop by the front desk and read and sign the "Active Helper and Liability Waiver" prior to entering class.
THE FIRST FEW WEEKS:
Toddler classes are very busy times in the gym. As soon as they enter the gym, they want to go, go, go. Please realize that the first time or two are the hardest for you and them. There will be other children who have been in the program longer, and may be older. There are many different developmental stages between 2 & 3 years. Try not to compare your child to them. They were new once too. It is okay if your child does not want to participate in the exact way the teacher presents. Try to follow along and enjoy their attempts. Eventually they will conform to class structure. We have found it takes 2-3 classes before they follow along. By the end of the session it is truly amazing how many things they can do!
If you have questions, please do not hesitate to ask your instructor.
