About Denise Hansen (Program Director/Instructor)

Denise began dancing in St. Louis at age 5 at Berkley Evans School of Dance.  After a move to Louisville, KY she began dancing with the Jo Ann Fryrear School of Dance.  It was there that she discovered her passion for Tap & Jazz!  In 1994 Denise attended Bradley University and began a Dance Minor, which would be her first exposure to the Peoria Ballet and Classical Ballet Instruction.  During the school year she took classes at Peoria Ballet, and taught at Kim’s Academy of Dance in Peoria.  During the summers she would return home and teach for Jo Ann in Louisville, as well as travel with the studio to conventions to learn a broader range of performance styles, and teaching techniques.  Graduating Magna Cum Laude from Bradley University in 1997 with a BS of Liberal Arts and Science and a BS in Communication, Denise returned home to Louisville, and taught for Jo Ann until  May 2000 when she moved to Peoria.  Upon returning to Peoria, she taught for 2 more years at Kim’s Academy of Dance until the birth of her first son Ryan. From 2003-2005 Denise taught at D&D Productions in Peoria.  With the pregnancy & birth of her triplets in 2006, Denise chose to take a hiatus from teaching to concentrate full time on being a mom and recovering physically from the pregnancy.  In 2013 Denise joined the teaching staff at the Peoria Ballet, specializing in Tap & Jazz. In 2016 Denise joined the Jump Start team as our Dance Director and she is excited to grow the Guidance Dance program.  In addition to teaching dance for over 20 years, Miss Denise is a wife and mother to six children and will be completing her Masters of Arts in Education this spring 2017.
